Faculty of Maritime Transport Technology

The Maritime Transport Technology programme at BMFA is designed to assist students in qualifying as a deck officer and complies with the academic rules of international standards. Deck officers are responsible for the safe navigation of a ship between ports; to become a deck officer, students have to study a nautical science programme. BMFA’s programme spans a period of four years, structured into eight semesters.

The programme consists of three main elements, namely: navigation and ship handling, safe and secure operation of a ship, and shipboard administration and cargo handling. Candidates wishing to follow the path of a deck officer must have a secondary certificate with good grades in English, mathematics, and science.
