The Marine Engineering programme is a 4-year degree program that centers on the construction, operation, and maintenance of different kinds of marine vessels such as cargo ships, cruise ships, special purpose ships, fishing boats, battleships and submarines.
Upon graduation, marine engineers will be able to operate and maintain engines, boilers, auxiliary machinery, electrical equipment and other important equipment onboard ships.
The syllabus and curriculum have been designed to provide a comprehensive foundation in the fundamental engineering sciences, and to provide an exposure to some area of the humanities and social sciences. Thereafter, the curriculum focuses on the specialized knowledge of theoretical and practical marine and mechanical engineering, with an emphasis on the skills and competencies required to operate, manage, and maintain shipboard machinery.
Areas of study include:
– Mathematics
– Applied Mechanics
– Basic Engineering Knowledge
– Thermodynamics
– Heat Transfer
– Engineering Drawing
– Auxiliary Machines
– Basic Electricity & Electronics
– Internal Combustion Engine
– Report Writing & Communication Skills
